This post-educational, intermediate period includes those years dedicated to the expansion of my new, professional life following the granting of my doctorate from Cornell University. The beginning events are associated with my post-doctoral appointments at Dartmouth Medical School in Hanover, New Hampshire (1961 – 63) and at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon (1963 – 1965).
These two relatively short intervals are followed with a change from biochemical research, per se, to the support of biochemical research by the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland (1963 – 1970). My life changed from being a “scientist” to becoming a “scientist-administrator.”
My next metamorphosis occurs with my change from being a “scientist-administrator” to a return to university life as an “academic-administrator” with the University of Massachusetts at Amherst (1970 – 1977).
